Mental Health Monday: New Year’s Resolutions

Happy New Year from Raza Properties!

If you feel that things “should have been better” or that you were truly unproductive in 2017, remind yourself of all the mountains and valleys that got you here. All the highs and lows in life are lessons learned; and they are what forms you to who you are today. Take those lessons learned and apply your new knowledge, insight, and patience into your everyday life in the new year.

Make this a year of self-improvement. Set both short-term and long-term goals for yourself. Creating and following through with a reasonable, yet productive New Year’s resolution can drastically change your overall mental and physical health.

As you brainstorm what you want to accomplish in 2018, remind yourself that none of these things can be resolved overnight. There will be times where you will mess up and there will be times when you want to quit. Keep track of what triggers you or what situations made you slip up. What can you do in the future to avoid this from happening again?

Don’t just set a goal, set a game plan that will help you achieve the goal. Often, our resolutions are destined for failure because our expectations are too high and our plans on how we are going to achieve them are too low.

Constantly surround yourself with positive, uplifting, and helpful individuals who understand your goals and help you fulfill your resolutions. Share your progress and your struggles with them. They may have great insight to help you through any rough patches and they will be there to celebrate your success with them.

Even if just for fifteen minutes a day, do something that you absolutely love. Dance, go for a walk, color, FaceTime with someone who always makes you laugh.. Whatever it is, do something each and every day that brings you a sense of peace and happiness. It is easy to get caught up in life and all of the work that everyday life brings; but this year, make it essential for you to have “me-time” to just relax.

There is an endless list of tips and tricks that can make your resolutions successful. Along the way, remember that you are not perfect. Do the best that you possibly can and understand that’s enough. You can only accomplish anything in life if you are kind and forgiving to yourself and work in a reasonable, self-paced manner. You will never speak to anyone more than you speak to yourself in your head. Raza Properties believes in you and encourages you to make 2018 the best year yet!
